A full service department - Public Works has a Director, 8 full-time staff and, in summer, three part-time positions offered to deserving local youth.

The Public Works Dept. is responsible for the two separate sewer systems - Industrial and Domestic, as well as supervision of refuse and composting facility; a water system capable of pumping 6,000,000 gallons per day, approximately 30 miles of city streets, six City Parks totaling 38.7 acres and a new Aquatic Center with two pools and two water slides. 

The newest park, Lauzier, still under development, is located on 13th Avenue SW just south of Monument Elementary School and once completed will provide two lighted softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts and basketball courts.
